Before I install my used transmission how can I tell if the torque converter is in the right position? When I pulled it from the junyard car I didn't make any marks on it and it may have spun a bit one way. The converter lost some fluid when I tilted it so do I have to fill it with a bit of fluid or will it get fluid when its installed and the car is running?
RockAuto ships auto parts and body parts from over 300 manufacturers to customers' doors worldwide, all at warehouse prices. Easy to use parts catalog.
Should I pull the converter off and grease up the shaft a bit, and how can I tell if its fully engaging it and properly on? /b I have no clue.
But just wanted to suggest something, your car is already broken/ripped apart, install those damn springs. How did you bolt the flexplate to the torqueconverter if it wasn't in the transmission? When you are putting the torque converter on in the transmission it will slip on 4 different shafts. When you think it is in all the way try rocking the converter side to side by pushing on the face. If it is still wobbly it still has one more set of splines to go on.

When you are bolting the belhousing on to the engine makre sure the torque converter spins freely the whole time. If the converter is not seated properly and you tighten the belhousing bolts anyway you will either break your flexplate (the thing your converter bolts on to) or you will cause major transmission damage.
